As Head of Patient Research, you and your team will strengthen the understanding and use of myeloma and AL amyloidosis patient preferences, perspectives and experience data in decision-making undertaken by MPE and other stakeholders such as the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory bodies, health technology assessment bodies and healthcare professionals. More about the role You ll engage with external and internal stakeholders to identify our patient research priorities and oversee ongoing research projects, commission new ones and conduct in-house research as appropriate. This will also include contributing to relevant international research projects (such as Innovative Health Initiative projects), where the need arises. You ll directly manage a Research Assistant, as well as external research partners (such as academic institutions and research consultants), in the identification and delivery of patient research projects. Other key relationships include your work with the Head of Policy and Access and wider community (including patient advocates, physicians and industry) to identify research opportunities that underpin the strategic objectives of MPE, such as to improve patient access to treatment and care. Key responsibilities In this varied and exciting role, your key responsibilities will be to: Develop and implement the MPE patient research strategy, with input from internal and external stakeholders to ensure relevance. Conceptualise and prioritise ambitious multi-national patient research. Write and review research proposals and protocols, using sound scientific and statistical methods, where appropriate. Pitch and articulate the value of patient research to a range of high-level stakeholders, including potential sponsors. Conduct, supervise and/or commission patient research using a range of research methods (literature reviews, quantitative and qualitative research), analyse findings, derive conclusions and publish as needed. Work with Chief Operating Officer at MPE to secure private and/or public financing for projects. Manage the Patient Research Department budget and the budget for specific research projects. Navigate the ethics approval process for specific projects whenever needed, seeking advice from external stakeholders if needed. Manage the patient research department, ensuring that direct reports have the opportunity to learn and develop within their role. What we are looking for Essential Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g. social, life sciences or health services research), preferably to doctorate or Ph.D. level. Relevant professional background, which demonstrates knowledge and experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis, and evaluation. Demonstrable experience in writing and developing successful research strategies, proposals and protocols. Demonstrable skills in making clear and effective presentations to diverse audiences and high-level stakeholders. Strong project management and planning skills Possess a rigorous and analytical mind, with good attention to detail. Ability to work independently, but also to integrate well and work collaboratively as part of a small team and to get on well with others. Strong people management skills, including managing team members and external vendors in the delivery of research projects. Ability to travel internationally, as needed (usually around 20 days a year) to meet partners, MPE team members or attend relevant congresses and symposia. Desirable Experience in health-related organisation or patient-facing non-profit organisation. Knowledge and experience using patient preference research methodologies. Experience working with and leading research with patients, carers and their families on issues that are important to them. Evidence of publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals. Good budget management skills and ability to negotiate contract terms. Demonstrable experience of submitting successful grant applications at national and European level. Knowledge of ethical review processes in health research involving patients.
